Can you tell us a bit about where you grew up and what your early years were like?
I was born and brought up in Delhi, and have spent my entire life here. My early years were marked by a simple yet wonderful childhood. I was deeply involved in sports, especially basketball, which took up a big part of my time and energy. Alongside that, I had a strong love for singing and music, which added a creative rhythm to my routine. School life and close friendships also played a major role during those years, leaving little room for much else. It was a fulfilling and active time that shaped a lot of who I am today.
Changing careers isn’t easy — how did you go from working in banking to stepping into the world of fashion and entertainment?
Banking was a path my late father guided me toward, and that’s where my professional journey began. But fashion and entertainment always felt like something I was born to be a part of. They say that what you’re meant to do will eventually find its way to you — and in my case, that’s exactly what happened.
None of the work I’ve done in fashion or entertainment was part of a structured plan. The opportunities just started to show up — one door after another, and I chose to walk through them. After taking a long sabbatical to focus on raising my kids, I began thinking about returning to work, but banking no longer felt like the right fit.
That said, I still carry with me the strong work ethic and professionalism I developed during my years at American Express and HSBC. I truly valued my time there and enjoyed those experiences — they laid the foundation for everything that came after.
Looking back, what was the most challenging part of making that shift?
To be honest, there had been a gap of a few years, and up until then, all I had known professionally was banking. So stepping into a completely different world — fashion and entertainment — was definitely new territory for me. But I wouldn’t call it challenging. In fact, the journey unfolded quite naturally. The path seemed to carve itself out, and I simply followed where it led.
You’ve worked with top-tier brands like BMW, Tata Housing, Samsung, and many more — how did those opportunities come your way?
My journey into the world of fashion began with styling. It all started quite organically — people around me would often ask for help with their looks, shopping, and overall transformation. I discovered that styling came effortlessly to me, and more importantly, I truly enjoyed it. Helping someone look and feel their best brought me a deep sense of satisfaction. Seeing their confidence grow and their happiness shine through was incredibly rewarding.
From there, I began working on ad shoots as a stylist. Interestingly, during that time, many photographers started encouraging me to step in front of the camera as a model, rather than staying behind the scenes. I eventually shot my first portfolio with the brilliant Suvo Das, and that moment became a turning point — there was no looking back. One opportunity led to another, and soon, I found myself working with some of the most prestigious brands in the industry.
How do you balance creativity with the commercial aspects of modeling and acting?
To be honest, as a model, the creative concept of an ad is usually developed by the brand and the advertising agency. Our role is to bring that vision to life — to step into a character and narrate a story through our presence and expression. That said, there's still plenty of room for creativity. Each model brings their own unique energy and interpretation to the role, and that's where the magic happens.
What I find most creatively fulfilling is the chance to play different characters — often ones that are completely different from who I am in real life. It keeps the work exciting and allows me to constantly explore new sides of myself. As for the commercial side of things, that’s usually handled by our managers and representatives, which lets us focus fully on the creative process.
What inspired you to start your own fashion label, and how did you go about launching it?
My deep love for styling and helping people look their best definitely played a big role in inspiring me to launch my own brand — Supergirl Attitude by Bandana. The idea came to me quite unexpectedly during the slow, uncertain days of the Covid lockdown. With everything at a standstill, I found myself reflecting and creating, and that’s when the concept truly took shape. I began working on it with a sense of purpose, and what started as a spark of inspiration soon evolved into a full-fledged label.
Tell us about Supergirl@ttitude — what’s the story behind the name and brand?
Supergirl Attitude isn’t just a name I chose because it’s catchy or different — even though it is both. The name carries a much deeper meaning. I could have launched the label under my own name, Bandana Sondhi, like many designers do. But that would never have captured the message I wanted to share through my brand and the kind of clothes I create.
The name Supergirl Attitude represents a belief — that no matter your size, color, background, or how you look, everyone deserves to feel beautiful. Not everyone is born conventionally beautiful, but everyone has the right to look and feel their best. My brand is about embracing your individuality, owning your style, and stepping into your power. Because when you wear the right clothes, it changes how you carry yourself. It gives you the confidence to show up boldly, with strength, pride, and yes — with a Supergirl Attitude.
How do you use platforms like Instagram to connect with your audience and represent your brand?
Social platforms like Instagram have made it possible to connect with people from all kinds of backgrounds. It’s truly heartening to receive such genuine appreciation from so many corners of the world.
What’s your vision for Supergirl@ttitude, and how is it different from other fashion brands?
What sets us apart from other brands is our distinctly boho aesthetic, deeply rooted in Indian culture. Every garment and accessory carries a subtle — yet intentional — touch of India. We love blending Western silhouettes with Indian elements, creating pieces that celebrate both modern style and traditional craftsmanship.
Our vision is simple yet powerful: to see more and more people wearing Supergirl Attitude. That, to me, is the greatest reward — knowing that the work we do is resonating with real people. And what makes it even more special is that we’re committed to keeping the brand accessible and affordable, so style and confidence are never out of reach.
How do you curate or design your collections? Is there a particular aesthetic or philosophy behind it?
The evolution of our collections and designs has been a gradual and organic journey — one that, in many ways, feels like it has taken on a life of its own. We started with a simple range of T-shirts, which then naturally expanded into T-shirt dresses. From there, the brand blossomed into something much bigger, including jewelry, bags, accessories, kaftans, and so much more.
At the heart of everything we create is a clear philosophy: to offer something truly unique, beautifully affordable, and always infused with a touch of India. That essence defines Supergirl Attitude — it's where global style meets soulful craftsmanship.
You also curate and organize pop-up shows — what made you step into that space?
The pop-up shows truly felt like they were meant to happen — I didn’t overthink it. Back in 2013, the idea came to me quite suddenly, and I simply followed my instinct and acted on it. Since then, there’s been no looking back. I've been consistently hosting one or two shows a year in South Delhi under the name Supergirl Chronicles by Bandana, and it’s grown into a beautiful platform of its own.
What are some memorable brands or moments from your shows that stand out to you?
My pop-up shows have always held a special place in my journey. Over the years, we've hosted them in vibrant neighborhoods like Anand Lok, Vasant Vihar, Greater Kailash Part 1 and 2, Maharani Bagh, Panchsheel, and more. The core idea was to create an accessible and affordable platform for startups — a space where emerging brands could showcase their work without the burden of high costs.
Every brand I’ve collaborated with at these pop-ups has been unique and meaningful. Many have become repeat partners, and watching their growth alongside mine has been one of the most fulfilling parts of this experience.
How do you stay grounded and motivated in an industry that’s constantly evolving?
Staying grounded and motivated is a personal choice — it stems from one’s inner journey and spiritual growth, not the industry you’re part of. It’s important to always remember that no matter what you achieve, at the end of the day, you're just as human as everyone else. Humility should be constant, regardless of success or recognition.
How do you balance your personal and professional life, especially with such a demanding career?
I’ve found so much joy in my professional life that balancing it never felt like a burden — it came naturally. For me, work is sacred; it’s not just something I do, it’s something I deeply respect and cherish.
