Kunwar Amarjeet Singh

Kunwar Amarjeet Singh | Dancer | Television Actor | Interview With TheTalkStreet

Kunwar Amarjeet Singh is an Indian dancer, choreographer, and television actor. He gained fame as a finalist on the dance reality show “Dance India Dance” (Season 2) and later became widely known for his role as Reyaansh (Rey) Singhania in the popular youth TV series "Dil Dosti Dance" (D3) on Channel V.

He started his journey as a professional dancer before stepping into acting. His incredible skills in contemporary and hip-hop dance quickly made him a fan favorite. Alongside acting, he has been part of several dance-based projects and reality shows, showcasing his passion for dance and performance.

TTS ICon  What was your childhood like, and how did your upbringing in Indore shape who you are today?

My childhood was like that of any other middle-class kid—simple and basic. But looking back now, I realize it was the best. I belong to a generation that played outside on the ground, got soaked in the rain, jumped into rivers, walked alongside cows, and did everything on our own. Those experiences shaped me, keeping me grounded and helping me become the person I am today.

TTS ICon  When did you first discover your passion for dance? Was there a particular moment or influence that inspired you?

Honestly, I started dancing quite late in life, and it was only because I wanted to make friends. I wasn’t great at studies or the most popular in my crowd. One day, I just decided to dance—and that moment changed everything for me.

For years, I danced just for fun, but when I got into college and discovered the real world of dance, I was completely drawn in. That’s when I realized this was something I could truly excel at. Convincing others wasn’t easy, but my heart was set on dancing—so I followed it, and that’s exactly what I did.

TTS ICon  How do you approach character development for a role compared to preparing for a dance performance?

Well, I must say that being a dancer does help in understanding emotions, but dance and acting are two very different crafts. Once I decided to pursue acting, I focused on learning the craft and paying attention to the finer details.

Whenever I take on a character, I start by going through the fundamentals of acting, which are essential for understanding the role. Then, I find my reference points and build on them to bring the character to life. The biggest difference between dancing and acting is that in dance, you rely on music and beats, whereas in acting, it's all about the script. It’s a small difference, but both are equally exciting and enjoyable in their own way.

TTS ICon  Which dance forms are you most passionate about, and why?

When I started dancing, I mostly focused on western styles, and freestyle hip-hop was always my favorite. But during Dance India Dance, when I had the opportunity to learn contemporary with Terence Sir’s team, I completely fell in love with it as well. That said, hip-hop will always have a special place in my heart.

TTS ICon  What’s the biggest difference between performing on stage as a dancer and acting in front of a camera?

The biggest difference, I’d say, is that when you perform on stage, there is no second chance-you have to get it right in the moment. But when working with a camera, even if you make a mistake or feel you can do better, you always have the chance to redo it. That’s the key distinction I’ve noticed.

TTS ICon  What’s a dream role you’d love to play someday?

I haven’t really thought about a dream role yet because I believe it will find me. I’m waiting for that one role that excites me so much that I just know—this is it, this is my dream role.

TTS ICon  How did participating in DID shape your career and open doors in the entertainment industry?

Participating in DID was a significant step in my career. However, my intention was never to seek fame but to prove that we are hardworking artists and that what we do is truly an art, not just a pastime. It was always about showcasing our passion to the world. I believe DID helped open doors for many dancers, allowing them to pursue dance as a career. As for its impact, DID gave us recognition, a platform, and the opportunity for creators and industry professionals to connect and collaborate with us.

TTS ICon  Can you share a behind-the-scenes memory from the set of D3 that fans might not know?

There are so many unforgettable memories from D3. One that stands out is how all the boys would spend most of their time together in one room, sharing meals and constantly teasing each other. During night shoots, we would often try to scare people with ghost stories, creating moments of fun and mischief. But beyond all the pranks, it was a beautiful bond we shared, and we all truly miss those days.

TTS ICon  How different was the Nach Baliye stage from other platforms you’ve performed on?

There wasn’t much difference in terms of performance, but the biggest change was in recognition. Before Nach Baliye, I was fighting to make a name for myself, but after being on the show, people already knew me. It was less about proving myself and more about living up to expectations and taking my journey to the next level.

TTS ICon  Having worked on such diverse projects, how do you adapt to the different demands of dance reality shows and fictional dramas?

I think it’s a natural process that unfolds on its own. Of course, having the right mindset and the ability to adapt is important, but when you keep working consistently, things start falling into place automatically. Instead of feeling like a burden, you begin to enjoy the journey.

TTS ICon  How did you approach your character in Naamkaran, given the show’s intense and emotional themes?

It was a very intense and sensitive script. When I was offered the role of Aladdin, I had the privilege of being personally briefed by Mr. Bhatt himself, which turned out to be a truly life-changing experience. What made the role even more special was how much I personally related to the character. My thoughts on certain aspects of the story aligned closely with Aladdin’s, and my naturally happy-go-lucky personality made it feel even more authentic. Of course, we all contributed our own elements to make the character more engaging and dynamic, but at its core, it felt like a part of me.

TTS ICon  What do you think makes Anupama resonate with such a wide audience?

I believe the storyline of Anupama and the real-life challenges that women face have deeply resonated with the audience, making the show so impactful. The show is backed by incredible performers and talented writers who have played a huge role in bringing it to where it stands today. After a long gap, Anupama has sparked a revolution in the industry, setting a new benchmark for storytelling and audience connection.

TTS ICon  What did you learn from working in such a mix of reality shows, daily soaps, and anthology series?

I believe it has only deepened my passion for the art and fueled my hunger to grow even more. It has pushed me to train harder because the more I work, the more I realize that there is so much within me that I want to express, perform, and share with the world. I feel truly fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such a diverse mix of talent and experiences, which constantly inspires me to evolve as an artist.

TTS ICon  What role has your family played in keeping you grounded despite the fame and recognition?

My family means everything to me, and they have played a major role in shaping the person I am today. I look at my father and admire the way he has held our family together, my brother who inspires me with his hard work, and my mother and sister who have taught me the value of humility. Their influence has been a guiding force in my life. I truly believe that staying connected with your family helps you grow into a better person, providing you with strength, wisdom, and a sense of grounding.

TTS ICon  What are some projects or roles that align with your vision for the next phase of your career?

I have just finished working on my first web series, which is set to be released soon, and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s been an incredible journey, and I truly hope the audience will love it. My biggest wish is to entertain people even more and make this project a memorable experience for everyone watching.
