Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies has been selected as India's official entry for the Oscars 2025, the Film Federation of India announced on September 23. The Hindi film, a light-hearted satire on patriarchy, was chosen from 29 entries, including Animal, Aattam, & All We Imagine As Light. The film follows two young brides who mistakenly arrive at the wrong husband’s homes during a train journey. Starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Ravi Kishan, it spotlights rural women's empowerment.
